Observations of the Orionid shower made at 40.358 MHz with an imaging radar in 1980 and 1981 are described. The activity and motion of the radiant together with the magnitude distribution of the meteors and its variation with solar longitude, and also the flux of particles in the Orionid stream as a function of meteoroid mass, have been determined. The total mass of the stream is strongly dependent of the mass of the smallest member particles. An Appendix describes how observed echo rates may be corrected for the effects of the initial radii of the trains.
