The neutral atmosphere at ionospheric altitudes is characterized by a great variety of temporal and spatial variability, yielding a commensurate variety of ionospheric phenomena. Attention is given to recent developments in the observation and theory of ionospheric dynamical disturbances and irregularities closely connected with, if not directly attributable to, the coupling between ions and neutrals. The aspects of ionsopheric dynamics in which the behavior of the neutrals plays a key role are traveling ionospheric disturbances, ionospheric irregularities, and the atmospheric dynamo.
