The coupling of the tides in the ocean and in the atmosphere is studied theoretically. Although only an ocean which covers the earth's surface entirely is considered, the result suggests the possibility of a large effect of the ocean on the atmospheric lunar tides. The main effect is to amplify the atmospheric oscillation if the ocean depth is within certain limits. The effect of limited oceans resembling closely those actually occurring on the earth remains to be discussed.
