Under the condition that the rate of change of the fluctuation field is much greater than that of the background field and the expansion rate of the universe, a finite temperature field theory can be established in dynamical spacetimes. The one-loop finite temperature effective potential for λφ4 theory in Robertson-Walker universes is computed here by the adiabatic expansion method. It is useful for the study of the symmetry behavior of the GUT and Planck eras in the early universe.
