The canonical formulation of the gauge theory of gravitation is discussed. The Lagrangian of the theory is introduced, examining its Euler-Lagrange equations and Lagrange constraints. The system is formulated using Dirac's Hamiltonian dynamics, and a set of constraints is found which governs the gauge symmetry of the system and reduces the degrees of freedom to physical ones. The reduction is discussed and the system is described only by tetrad variables. A set of first-class constraints which governs the gauge symmetry of the tetrad dynamics is obtained.
