The goal of a Virtual Observatory is to enable science. Measuring the achievement of this goal can be challenging. There are many aspects of a Virtual Observatory which can aid a researcher and metrics can be gathered on each aspect. One of the key aspects is data discovery or "finding what I want". There is a spectrum of data discovery techniques ranging from well organized web accessible sites for the expert to scientifically expressed queries. In between are facet-based searches and text-based indexed queries. NASA's Virtual Magnetospheric Observatory (VMO) has employed all these approaches to enable science and has found that the success of each approach depends on the expertise and prior knowledge of the user. We explore how the VMO has blended these approaches in an integrated Virtual Observatory environment. We also look at the types of metrics which can be gathered from each approach to evaluate how well science was enabled.
