Scientific paper

The paper considers the existence of an ionospheric Alfven resonator, i.e., a resonator for Alfven-mode MHD waves, bounded from below by the lower ionosphere and the earth's surface and from above by a region higher than the F-layer maximum. This resonator exists due to disruption of geometrical optics in the region above the F-layer maximum for Alfven waves of the Pc1 range. The natural frequencies, q-factor, and excitation efficiency of the resonator are calculated.
