Loop-shaped structures that may be interpreted as absorption features over the solar surface are exhibited by high-resolution filtergrams in Lyman-alpha that were obtained with a rocket-borne instrument. By determining the shape and dimensions of these coronal structures from the images, and measuring their optical thickness with respect to nearby, unabsorbed disk features, the calculation of the neutral hydrogen temperature and density is possible. It is found that temperatures below 100,000 K, and densities of a few tens of thousands of hydrogen atoms/cu cm, are compatible with the opacities observed in the structures.
