The observed emission of both ratio and X-ray pulsars originates from plasmas under very extreme conditions. The common property is the occurrence of huge magnetic fields of the order of 10 to the 8th T. Concerning the complex of problems associated with radio pulsars, the equations governing the magnetosphere of an aligned rotator are investigated, and possible structures of self-consistent solutions are discussed. In a second part, the accretion columns of X-ray pulsars, especially with the electron-photon interactions in hot strongly magnetized plasmas, are dealt with.
