The structural modulation of electrojet currents by zonal and meridional winds is analytically studied. It is found that winds and wind shears do not have a very significant effect on the electrojet current at the equator. They can, however, greatly modify the currents in the meridional plane even at the equator. The zonal wind shears can decrease or increase the width of the jet by as much as 100 percent in latitude depending upon their direction, their strength, and the altitude. Meridional winds and wind shears render the latitudinal distribution of the electrojet current density asymmetrical by producing asymmetrical meridional currents. The vertical structure observed in the profiles of the eastward current density a few degrees off the equator can be explained as due to effects of either zonal wind shears or meridional winds. Dramatic reversals of the counterelectrojet at the equator cannot be accounted for by horizontal winds.
