On the basis of the Wesselink radii and colour indices the relation P_F - R - _0 for fundamental periods P_F was established. This enabled separation of the first overtone pulsators: BG Cru, BF Oph, V 482 Sco, Y Sgr and U Aql. Transformation to the P_F - M_ - _0 relation allows the statement that the calibration Cepheids are pulsating in the fundamental periods. New photometric masses for Cepheids are proposed and the problem of the instability strip crossings discussed. A method is presented of determining the crossing numbers applying to about 60 stars. The consequences of stars being separated according to the crossings on the relations mass-period and mass-luminosity are discussed.
