The contributions to cosmology expected from SNIa samples that will be detected in the extension of SDSS and the proposed DES will be presented. The ability of SDSS to populate a region of intermediate redshift, where the current number of SNIa candidates is low, will be discussed together with the results of the SDSS 2004 SNIa test survey. The expected efficiency for SNIa detection in DES will be discussed, and its dependence on the near-IR quantum efficiency of the CCDs used in the DES camera will be presented.
