The identification of the transition between prestellar and protostellar evolutionary phases (i.e. ``Class -I'' and ``Class 0'' objects) is notoriously difficult. The isothermal evolution of contracting clouds may show the same signatures as clouds that already contain a first core (consisting of warm, molecular hydrogen). However, the detection of the first core may be impeded by the high opacity. On the other hand, as soon as the first cores become visible, they are difficult to distinguish from young Class 0 objects (i.e. second cores) that do not yet drive an outflow. Here, we present ISOCAM observations of protostars in the L 1082 globular filament (at 6.7 and 14.3 μm). The early evolutionary stage of our candidate sources is evidenced by the high ratio of their millimeter wavelength to bolometric luminosity. The lack of outflow activity in the youngest sources of our sample is corroborated by the non-detection of radio continuum and H2 emission, and from the absence of CO linewings.
