We calculate the expected excess of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) from the direction of M31 assuming that GRBs come from an extended halo around both M31 and our own galaxy. Specifically, we consider the ``delayed turn-on'' model and the halo beaming model for GRBs. We express the GRB rate from M31 as functions of instrument sensitivities, and the observing solid angle towards M31. We conclude that, with a gamma-ray instrument that is ten times more sensitive than BATSE, delayed turn-on model gives a strong excess of GRBs from M31 but halo beaming model gives only a possible marginal detection in over a year of observations.
