A correction to the quiet International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) foF2 and hmF2 values is obtained by modeling the effect of a substorm or a sequence of substorms on the ionospheric electron density profiles. It is shown that the method can update monthly median IRI predicitons by reproducing the ionospheric effects of substorms; the parameters needed are the onset time and the maximum AE index reached during the event.
