It is shown, using no free parameters, that the known strength of the plasmon-electron interaction is capable of explaining the solar neutrino problem. The assumption of a Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution for the high energy electrons in a nondegenerate plasma is valid only in the limit of weak interactions. The effect of the quantum nature of the plasmon-electron interaction on the high energy electron distribution is investigated. It is shown that the quantum nature of plasmons induces a broadening of the high energy electron distribution which, in turn, decreases the radiation opacity. For plasma parameters of the sun, it is shown that the radiation opacity decreases to less than half its common value, and the indicated solar neutrino emission decreases to within the present experimental limit.
