We investigate the validity of the epicyclic approximation to the motion of charged dust grains about Saturn. Non-ideal forces, such as planetary oblateness, solar radiation pressure, plasma drag, and the effects of time-dependent charging are neglected. A new and simplified derivation of the first-order epicyclic expansion is presented. We calculate the mean motion and the aspect ratio of the epicyclic ellipse for a wide range of particle sizes of either charge sign. Grains are started both inside and outside of synchronous radius on both prograde and retrograde orbits with initial Kepler velocity. For gravitationally dominated grains the mean motion is given by the classical expression but for magnetically dominated grains the mean motion differs markedly from that of the equilibrium orbit if the orbit is looped.
