Peale et al (2007) have shown that the planetary perturbations on the orbital motion of Mercury lead to forced librations in longitude. The main perturbations are mostly due to Jupiter and Venus.
We numerically integrate a set of differential equations describing the librational motion of the mantle and the core of Mercury for different dissipation parameter values and for different models of orbital motions. Dissipation due to tides and core-mantle interactions is included.
The amplitudes and periods obtained using the analytical series given by the VSOP orbital theory are compared with results from an analytical method (Dufey et al, 2008).
