An overview of the preliminary findings of the Pioneer-Venus program is presented. The last phase of the mission is reviewed, as are the German experiments that were included in the program. The atmosphere of Venus is described, including the ionosphere and the neutral atmosphere. The presence of rare gases is taken into account, and it is noted that the amount of argon-38 and neon-20 in the Venus atmosphere is considerably greater than on earth's atmosphere. The planet's cloud configuration, temperature, and dust particles are examined. Preliminary findings pertaining to the Venus surface are mentioned.
