Extinction in the young open star cluster NGC 6823 is studied on the basis of available UBV photometry and spectroscopic observations of 24 cluster stars. The reddening law for cluster members is found to be consistent with a straight line of slope E(U-B)/E(B-V) = 0.72. Available observational data are summarized for members of the Vul OB1 association, which appears to be physically related to NGC 6823, and it is shown that the data for NGC 6823 trapezium stars are in excellent agreement with the R = 3.0 relation previously derived for Vul OB1. It is concluded that a normal extinction law is applicable to most stars in NGC 6823.
