Scientific paper

This paper extends the study of Lejeune and Wormser (1976) on the diffusion of photoelectrons in the plasmasphere by considering the diffusion of monoenergetic boundary electron fluxes. Plasmasphere transmission and retrodiffusion coefficients are obtained for monoenergetic electron fluxes and are fitted by formulas which allow the calculation of the transmission and reflection of any boundary photoelectron flux. Knowledge of the diffusion of photoelectron fluxes in the plasmasphere is necessary to understand the coupling of the ionosphere and the plasmasphere. It is also necessary to study the thermal structure of the plasmasphere and to interpret the results of electron release experiments.
