The paper summarizes the Isis 2 dayside magnetic measurements and particularly their dependence on the y component (By) of the IMF. In addition, the magnetic perturbation profiles are compared with particle profiles in the noon sector, and the locations of the perturbations with respect to cleft particles and the 40-keV background boundary are determined. A major conclusion is that the dayside magnetic perturbations when plotted as two-dimensional vectors look very similar to the standard two-cell convection pattern except that in the cleft region the direction is either eastward or westward depending on the sign of By (eastward when By is positive and westward when it is negative). Maximum perturbation in the noon sector falls within the region of cleft precipitation lying near the poleward edge of cleft electrons and just poleward of the 40-keV electron boundary. The location of the maximum perturbation in this sector is identified with the polar cap boundary. In the dawn and dusk sectors a marked change in slope of the magnitude of the perturbation typically occurs at the poleward edge of the plasma sheet.
