Scientific paper
The possibility that the solar supergranules are not convection cells is
discussed. It is hypothesized that supergranules are the return flow for
matter transported upward by granules, analogous to the rip currents on
ocean beaches. The analogy is developed in detail and is supported by
physical arguments.
