Using satellite laser ranging (SLR) data to measure perturbations of near-Earth satellites such as LAGEOS may be a sensitive way to look for preferred-frame effects in metric gravity. Improved precision in the constraining or detection of the parameterized post-Newtonian (PPN), preferred-frame coefficient 0264-9381/16/4/016/img1 could result from fitting for a unique annual period oscillation of amplitude 0264-9381/16/4/016/img2 cm in the along-track directions of such near-Earth satellite orbits.
