The success of current galaxy evolution models hinges critically on the role of AGN and SN feedback. We propose for X-ray observations with XMM-Newton to study 20 galaxy groups in ZENS with known galaxy and AGN populations to test the role of AGN and galaxy feedback in such models. The proposed XMM X-ray data will also quantify to what extent the intra-group medium affects galaxy evolution, in the ordinary intermediate-density environment of galaxy groups, through physical processes such as ram pressure and strangulation.
