We propose a 52 ks observation of the lensing, X-ray luminous cluster A 1703 to constrain its total and hot gas mass profile. A 1703 is an unusually relaxed cluster at z=0.28 and provides a special opportunity to study its mass profile by applying hydrostatic equilibrium. The XMM observation will be crucial for a secure determination of its relaxed dynamical state and an accurate measurement of its mass and NFW concentration parameter, not constrained by the strong lensing analysis. Given the still debated issue of very high concentrations found for some massive lensing clusters, by obtaining high quality X-ray data for a potentially well relaxed cluster we will perform a key test for the Lambda CDM scenario of structure formation.
