The Aberrated Beam Coronagraph (ABC) on the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) has the potential to significantly suppress diffracted light in the wings of the point-spread function (PSF). How well it can do this depends on its on-orbit alignment and how accurately an object can be positioned behind the occulting spot. Optimal contrast improvement can only be achieved with subtraction of the coronagraphic PSF, either by using a coronagraphic image of a reference star or by rolling the telescope between observations and subtracting the object from itself. Detailed PSF modeling has been performed to determine what the coronagraph can do and how to get the most out of it.
