In the last year, the PAMELA satellite has suggested an “anomalous” rise with energy of the cosmic ray positron fraction. Several explanations have been proposed: here I recapitulate the basic physics behind astrophysical explanations and summarize the existing issues in interpreting the data via dark matter. In particular, I will discuss observational ways to test different scenarios.
