In this paper, two models are used to construct the pattern in which the potential drop generated at the magnetopause is applied across the polar cap, namely, the expanding polar cap convection model of Moses et al. (1987) and Crooker's (1986) version of the antiparallel merging model. The results dictate a modification of the gap in the Moses et al. model, yielding a new set of model convection patterns. The new antiparallel model predicts convection cells for a northward turning IMF which have the nested configuration deduced by Heppner and Maynard (1987) from DE 2 observations.
