Solar Rotation, Solar Core

Scientific paper

A reduction of rotation period during the life-time of the Sun and stars of several spectral classes is observed. The solar wind takes away angular momentum from the surface, and magnetic coupling with the accretion disk in the early stage of the solar life has reduced the rotation, too. How the angular momentum is transported in the radiative shells of the stars and why the solar radiative core rotates uniformly is discussed here, based on numerical MHD simulations. Magneto-rotational instability is excited and the resulting turbulence transports efficiently angular momentum outward. The resulting time-scale of 10-100 mill. yr would explain the today's slow and uniform rotation of the radiative solar core.
