Magnetic fields are the main source of structuring of the solar atmosphere. Stokes I images at various wavelengths reflect this structure at the monochromatic heights of formation of the intensity. In the photosphere intensity tracers identify the location and evolution of kiloGauss flux tubes. In the chromosphere and above Stokes I images may be used to identify the direction of the magnetic lines of force, and may be used to establish the connectivity of the field inferred from photospheric vector magnetograms. In some circumstances the intensity diagnostics of the field may be misleading. Some of these "pitfalls" are discussed.
