Several features of the Meteosat radiometer are discussed. The primary optical unit is considered in terms of the telescope specifications, mirrors, mirror-mounting techniques, image collection, infrared channel electronics, and in-flight calibrations. The visible and water-vapor channel amplifiers are described. Problems associated with the mechanical suspension of the cooler, chemical and particle cleanliness, calibration, and real-time evaluations of image data are noted.
