The behavior of HD 47129 and the behavior of the resonance doublet of Si IV in the UV are described on the basis of ground-based observations. Emphasis is given to the importance of the object from the evolutionary point of view and the desirability of a concentrated, cooperative observing effort in as wide a wavelength range as possible through the orbital cycle.
