Spectrophotometric observations of the symbiotic star CI Cyg were carried out from May to December 1979 with the 122 cm telescope of the Astrophysical Observatory of Asiago, as a part of a systematic survey of symbiotic stars.
In that period [Fe VII] almost disappeared while [O III] and [Ne III] maintained their strength.
Some of our spectra were taken on June 12, one day after the day of an ultraviolet observation with the IUE satellite. The spectra were analyzed and from the intensity ratio of [O III] λ4363 to λ5007 + λ4959 an electron density ∼107 cm-3 was derived. This value is about 5 10-2 times lower than that estimated from the IUE observation by the intensity ratio of the ultraviolet semi-forbidden lines C III]/ N III]. This large discrepancy in electron density may suggest that the emission regions of the lines considered are different.
