Strong interplanetary shocks can accelerate particles to energies of tens of MeV/nucleon. Occasionally these shocks are still accelerating particles when they pass over spacecraft near 1 AU where the properties of both the shock and the energetic particles can be measured by instrumentation on spacecraft such as ACE. These events are called energetic storm particle (ESP) events. We present the results of a survey of ESP events where the spectra of heavy ions were measured by the ULEIS and SIS instruments. We examine the spectral properties as a function of shock parameters such as strength and orientation. This work was supported in part by NASA under grants NAS5-12929, NAS5-03131, and NNX06AC27G.
