Optical Spectrograph and InfraRed Imager System (OSIRIS) on Odin measures the limb-scattered sunlight in the range of 280-810 nm with the spectral resolution of ~1 nm. OSIRIS spectra at 290-305 nm are used to retrieve particle sizes for Polar Mesospheric Clouds (PMC). Three particle size distributions - monodisperse, Gaussian (sigma=16 nm), and log-normal (sigma=1.4) - are used in the retrieval process. Our results suggest that particle radii for bright clouds (that are at least 5 times brighter than the corresponding Rayleigh background)are around 30 nm for the log-normal distribution, 35 nm for the Gaussian distribution, and 55 nm for the monodisperse distribution. Particle radii for clouds observed at lower latitudes of 50-60 N/S are 10-20% smaller than those for high latitude clouds. We found no systematic difference between NH and SH cloud radii: SH radii were up to 20% lower than NH in 2001-2004, but up to 20% higher than NH in 2004-2007.
