Germanium and tin in 17 chondrites including an enstatite chondrite and a carbonaceous chondrite, 14 iron meteorites, one separated troilite phase, and three separated phases of two stony-iron meteorites were analysed by a colorimotric method using germanium-dimethyl aminophenyl fluorone complex and tin-dithol complex. Analytical data for germanium in ordinary chondrites and iron meteorites confirm earlier results. From the data for tin, it is found that tin varies in concentration in chondrites as well as in iron meteorites. A minor revision of the classification of meteorites made by et al. (1957) is suggested from data on tin in iron meteorites. Calculations of F values show that germanium and tin are expected to be siderophile at high temperatures and lithophile at low temperatures. Nevertheless, analytical data on whole samples emphasize the siderophile properties of germanium and tin to some degree the chalcophile properties of germanium. A discussion of this point is presented and extended to the evolution of meteorites.
