Energy supply from Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities (K-H) on the magnetopause boundary to Pc 4,5 pulsations is discussed. International Magnetospheric Studies data support this possibility except that the K-H most likely occurs in the shear zone across the interface separating the low latitude boundary layer and central plasma sheet. Changes in the frequency-spectra and power of pulsations in intervals with changes in magnetospheric substorm activity suggest an intimate connection between dayside Pc 4,5 and substorms. The Pc 4,5 pulsations, substorm-associated Ps 6 variations and westward traveling surges may all be manifestations of K-H's at the interface between the low latitude boundary layer and the central plasma sheet.
