Planetary Magnetospheres
Scientific paper
Magnetospheres have been found at all of the planets of the solar system visited by spacecraft. A moon of at least one planet has a magnetosphere and comets may also exhibit such a structure. Magnetospheres can be broadly divided into two categories: intrinsic and induced, depending upon whether the central object possesses its own magnetic field or not. The author considers general concepts which can be applied to the magnetospheres in the solar system and also discusses some significant differences between them.
