We have irradiated silicate minerals with and without deposited
Na-coatings, using 4 keV He+, and measured a sputtering cross section
for adsorbed-Na (σ ≈ 1 × 10^-15 cm2 atom-1).
A large fraction of the Na is sputtered as ions rather than as neutrals.
