Scientific paper

The observation of Saturn with NASA's Kuiper Airborne Observatory is discussed. The normal operational altitude is above 99 percent of the atmospheric vapor allowing access to infrared regions of the spectrum between 1 to 3 1/2 microns. An infrared spectrometer which uses an interferometer was attached to the bent Cassegrain focus of the telescope. Observations of Polaris were made in full daylight to help calibrate the spectrometer and investigations into clear-air turbulence are considered.
