The ability of proteins to find their unique three-dimensional structure in a millisecond to a second time scale has been one of the intriguing problems of biophysics. This problem, pointed out by Levinthal, is known as the protein folding problem. We discuss a nucleation scenario for protein folding that has been proposed to resolve the Levinthal paradox. .
