From a joint analysis of the spectral and diffusion functions used to describe the characteristics of solar cosmic rays, it is shown that the characteristic rigidity of the spectrum depends on time and the width of the solar cosmic ray rigidity interval considered. Relations are derived allowing the determination of the propagation parameters and spectral characteristics of solar cosmic rays from instantaneous measurements. The formulas were applied to several sets of Explorer solar flare data in the range R = 140-340 MV. It is seen how the spectra tend to deviate from a strictly exponential shape, the deviation being larger in the high rigidity region, where the spectra fall off slower than an exponential law.
