Three dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations are carried out in order to study the interaction between upstream density pulses and the Earth's bow shock. Such pulses can arise either intrinsically in the solar wind a large distance from the shock or can be generated in the foreshock region. In this work, we have performed the simulations with three types of density pulse. First type is a pulse in the density alone without changing all other variables. One of the other types of perturbations is a density pulse that is in anti-correlation with magnetic field strength representing the slow mode structure. The last type is a type of fast mode where the plasma density pulse is in positive correlation with magnetic field strength. We demonstrate that as the density pulse encounters the bow shock, the interaction generates various MHD waves in the magnetosheath through interesting processes.
