Differences and short-time variations with amplitudes being considerably larger than to be expected from any known velocity patterns in the photosphere (convective cells, meridional flows, etc.) are described. Wavelengths and bisector indices show the typical characteristics which result from the familiar effects known as blueshift, limb effect and line asymmetry. Additional observed effects are attributed to variations of the velocity fields in the upper photosphere/lower chromosphere (supergranulation cells, overshooting, oscillations), which either influence the wavelengths directly via the Doppler-effect, or indirectly by changing the contrast between the blue-shifted granules and the red-shifted intergranular lanes. Due to the snapshot character of the observations, no reliable conclusions can be drawn on the actual time-dependency.
