We report on an event observed by the 4 Cluster spacecraft in the northern polar cusp. During an interval of about 35 minutes, multiple field reversals of approximately 1-minute duration with an approximate 8-minute recurrence time were observed. The individual structures do not resemble low latitude FTEs [Russell and Elphic, 1979] but the 8-minute recurrence frequency suggests that an intermittent reconnection process of the sort that has been proposed by Southwood et al. [1988] and by Scholer [1988] may be occurring. Measurements (appropriately lagged) of the solar wind at ACE show that the field was southward-oriented and that a dynamic pressure increase occurred as this event started. The observations will be discussed both in the context of pressure pulses [Sibeck et al., 1989] and flux transfer events (FTE).
