We propose a 100 ksec CHANDRA ACIS-S observation to resolve and detect the shell of old classical nova Pictoris 1925 thereby establishing a second member, after GK Per, of a possible new class of X-ray emitters, Clasical Nova Remnants. An archieval ROSAT PSPC data show extended emission from the source. We plan to exploit the unique spatial and spectral capabilities of the ACIS-S detector in order to study the morphology and spectrum of the nova shell simultaneously. We expect that this observation will have great implications on our understanding of the classical nova evolution, nature of TNRs, outburst mechanisms together with the interaction of the nova shells with their environments of interstellar or circumstellar origin and physics of shocks.
