The studies of the fractal dimension of the magnetosphere using observational time series data have led to the identification of its global behavior. The magnetosphere also exhibit multi-scale properties, often expressed in terms of power law dependence of its characteristic quantities. For such systems the multifractal properties provide a unified framework for the global as well as the multiscale behavior. Correlated data of the solar wind induced electric field and the auroral electrojet index are used to compute the spectrum of fractal dimensions in a reconstructed phase space obtained by time delay embedding. One of the different values of the spectrum of fractal dimensions corresponds to the correlation dimension with a value of 2.5, in agreement with earlier results. The upper and lower cutoffs of the spectrum are determined by the noise in the data and the region in between characterizes the multi-scale characteristics. The multifractal spectrum is computed for different levels of magnetospheric activity and has values between 1.5 to 4.5 and its slope characterizes the degree to which magnetospheric activity is multi-scale in nature. For example, a completely scale invariant system would have multifractal spectrum extending over a large range and a very steep slope. The deviation from this behavior, as in the case of the magnetosphere, characterizes the way in which the global and multiscale characteristics blend in the dynamics of the magnetosphere.
