A statistical analysis is presented of the power spectra of the fluctuating Elsaesser variables which covers 3408 hrs of interplanetary magnetic field and plasma observations made aboard the Helios 1 and 2 spacecraft. The variation of the average e(+,-) spectra with heliocentric distance, solar wind velocity, and solar cycle phase is studied. It is shown that the spectrum of e(-) in the low-frequency range exhibits little variation with stream structure, heliocentric distance, and solar activity. As a result, the decrease of cross-helicity with increasing heliocentric distance is probably mainly due to the observed decrease of e(+).
