The possibility of investigating the short-period variations of galactic
cosmic rays from the data of neutron monitors is considered. The
estimates made suggest the conclusion that intensity fluctuations with
periods less than one hour must not be treated as certainly reliable
confidence factors from the viewpoint of physical significance.
